kenwood youth center

12 Weeks - 2020

This project focused on building relationships with the Kenwood Youth Community through recreation, cooking, gardening. The studio course also involved investigation through multiple phases of the design process such as zoning requirements, programming, eggress, and sustainability.

The overall main concept for this project was to create a youth center that had a strong relationship with the existing embankment on the site. The embankment was a curved, 15’ tall, concrete and dirt site condition. To create a natural circulation from multiple sides of the embankment both on the exterior and interior, the youth center takes a curved form. The main programming concept for the space was a circular room on one end to house all physical activities while the other side was a smaller circular room that housed the community kitchen. Youth programs were positioned in the center to bring together both sides of the center and a community roof garden was designed to create more green space.
